Product Description Stacey Spears and Don Munsil, who created the highly-regarded DVD Player BenchmarkTM and Progressive Scan Shootout at Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity®, have applied all their technical wizardry to this Blu-ray test and evaluation disc.
"The static test patterns represent the current state-of-the-art. They are more accurate than the test patterns found on previous discs. There are a lot of subtle details that go into making them as mathematically accurate as possible, especially since you are dealing with lossy encoding. We have built propriety tools to generate the synthetic patterns. We use a custom encoder that will preserve as much detail as possible. Even the simple color bars have unique traits that make them cleaner. - Stacey Spears, author of the disc"

This produc was not helpful to set my LCD TV. Didn't change much at all
Do not purchase to test surround speakers! July 23, 2010 Clay Adams (Washington, DC) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was mislead by the reviewer who wrote that this will also "test your surround speakers." Hardly! Just a brief clip of their logo with sounds playing. No explicit speaker by speaker tests.
Also, I was mislead by the Product Description that says the creators of "Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity® have applied all their technical wizardry to this Blu-ray test and evaluation disk." So, again, I expected some genuine speaker tests. Alas, no.

Don't Waste Your Money June 24, 2010 C. Kines (GA, USA) 0 out of 14 found this review helpful
This BD is a waste of money. It goes through what appears to be complex tests and adjustments, but it is no more than a waste of about an hour. Don't waste your money on this.
Lots of fun to use. June 22, 2010 Roy A. Midyett (so. cal.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Being rather picky about my TV picture, I wanted to try this out. It's really great fun for tech types who like to fiddle with the picture (and drive their wives crazy). I have a Panasonic 42 inch, 720 TV. It takes a little getting used to this disc to be fluent. I found that always going back to the menu and picking the next item was better than using the right-arrow. Sometimes, if I used the right arrow, it seemed like it skipped an item.
I won't say it dramatically changed my settings, but it was cool to play with it, and know that my TV has the best possible settings and picture. Of course, many of the later menu items, you can't do anything about, but it's fun to see how your set performs. And some of the results may be just shy of perfect if you have a 720 TV instead of 1080 like I do. I would recommend writing down your original settings before you do anything. And, remember, if your set is like mine, you will have to apply the settings you arrived at on the DVD mode to your TV mode also. Have fun!!
