Excellent! Awesome sound - and easy to setup! June 29, 2010 Ankit S. Malpani 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Looking for a Home Theater wasn't the easiest initially - since there are many many choices.
The choices need to be narrowed down on basis of three things:
1)Budget (how much are you ready to spend)
2)Size of the room - where the home theater will be set
3)HTIB or build your own ( buy a separate A/V reciever and separate speakers)
I live in a small manhattan apartment (1000 sq feet) and had a minimal budget of around $700. I also had a few conditions that I definitely wanted a home theater with an A/V reciever (for future flexibility).
My biggest priority was very good sound quality for movies, music and games on my 46 inch LCD. (Didn't care much about fm reciever/ipod dock etc).
before I started my search, I was biased towards Sony and Bose - and wasn't even considering Samsung.
However after testing - I was very dissapointed with Sony's systems (This one is far superior).
The two systems from bose that I liked were very expensive ($2700 and $3300).
After about two/three weeks of heavy testing, only two systems provided extremely good sound quality and were under $700 (which I thought were apt for a small sized apartment/living room).
- Samsung HW-C650S (this product)
- Sony HTCT-500 (Sound bar)
After a little more testing, I liked Samsung better. The sound is pretty crisp from both systems, but it is awesome to have rear speakers that produce the Surround sound.
Sound Quality
-For my living room (around 1000 sq.ft), the sound has been awesome.
-Most of the SONY systems had an issue: The sound is too loud during the action sequences in movies/games. However, the sound is very low during a dialogue scene. Hence, you need to increase the volume to listen to the dialogues, but decrease it back when a loud explosive scene comes on.
I havent seen this issue in Samsung. It delivers a strong sound durinng action sequences and also a crisp/clear sound during a dialogue scene.
-Good base, various sound themese like (music, movie, game etc)
Ease of use:
-I set this up in about an hours time and it started working like a charm. No real issues so far.
Another advantage:
-This system has an A/V reciever. So for any new buys in the future, I can still use it. ( a new Blu ray player, new TV, new speakers etc)
-It is really well priced. (Just for $400 I think, it is an awesome system)
-4 HDMI inputs
-works very well, with a samsung TV.
some improvements:
-This comes with an iPod dock. However, I cannot select a playlist to play. It starts playing the library automatically. This is not a big issue but an annoyance. Hopefully samsung is looking into this and updates the firmware soon.
Seriously, samsung? There is NO excuse for flawed user controls. June 26, 2010 C. Alexander (Camarillo, CA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this Samsung HW-C560S set a few days ago, which includes the reciever, speakers, remote, ipod dock and cables. I hooked it up to my Samsung Blu-Ray player with a Samsung 46" LCD.
The Good:
- Center channel sound is not bad, very clear speech on movies.
- Included cable speakers were quite long, able to reach the back corners of the room.
The Bad:
- Front L and R speakers and subwoofer bass can sound very "boxy" at times
- Playing Call of Duty 4 on XBOX 360 was a HUGE disappointment. I expected the crisp and satisfying fidelity of bullets pinging and dinging, but the overall sound was mid/bass heavy with muddy treble. What a waste of an awesome gaming experience.
- The Audio Sound Calibration (ASC) device only made things worse, and through calibrating my room made my rear speakers disturbingly loud, and the front speakers horridly quiet.
- The iPod dock is counterintuitive, and completely unusable. Having a party? Someone grabs an iPod and says "check out this song"? Once the iPod is placed into the dock, the iPod menu controls are disabled, and you MUST navigate your library with your Samsung remote. In addition, once you have the remote in hand you navigate your songs alphabetically, skipping forward and backward to find your song. The display reads 3 of 30,000, 4 of 30,000, etc. Seriously? This makes the iPod dock pointless, unusable, and is an inexcusable interface design flaw.
- The Setup interface consists of one line of display text on the receiver unit. Then to navigate the menus, you must refer to the printed guide booklet to find your item in the menu of selection choices. Alternatively, you can memorize the menu of selection choices, and blindly navigate the Setup choices by hitting UP, DOWN, ENTER, RIGHT, RIGHT, ENTER.... and here we find yet another inexcusable design flaw.
The Verdict:
- If you have NO interest in EVER playing your iPod through this system, and you don't mind busting out the guide booklet every time you want to fine-tune your speakers... then sure, throw away $350ish on this mediocre hunk of plastic.
great for the money May 13, 2010 John Mansfield (newton ga.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
if you are like me more time than money .
you can run wires to the speakers .
when i was done i was not disapointed.
you can add a power sub...but i dont feel the need to.
its all lite weight and packs a big punch...
guess what.. I LOVE IT....
Disappointed May 6, 2010 Zinger (Midwest) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this HTIB and tried it for a week. The passive sub is weak and the other speakers are too small. I have replaced the system with an Onkyo HT-S5300.
Not Bad!!!! May 4, 2010 Victor Calderon (Sacramento, Ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So firstly I was really glad that I didnt have to pay shipping for this sucker, thanks amazon. I bought this to replace an old sony theatre system I bought when I was younger. Was skeptical bc it had no reviews so thats why im writing this one. The ups of this system in my opinon are the multiple inputs for everything. It has 4 HDMI inputs and many av inputs as well. I wanted a reciever that sounded good and could handle alot of things being plugged into it. I will not lie, Im pretty tech savy but it took me awhile to figure this thing out. finally I realized how to use the remote and made everything run alot smoother. I can even play movies from my ipod to show on the tv, pretty cool, not the best quality but it works. Did not like the ipod music for this system what so ever, If you use it you can only listen to the your playlist starting with track one and just skipping all the way down with the remote, found away around that tho, I just put the system on ipot video and it plays what I tell it to play. In all the sound is crisp wish it had more watts since my old sony was a 1000watts but it matchs perfectly with my lcd and my ps3. shiney black, got to love it, but I hate Dust!!!!!!!!!!!!
